UPCOMING COMMUNION SCHEDULE

You are encouraged to take time before each scheduled Communion to reflect on the meaning of the Lord's Supper for you, for PPC and for the world.

The "Directory for Worship" notes that "in preparing to receive Christ in this Sacrament, the believer is to confess sin and brokenness, to seek reconciliation with God and neighbor, and to trust in Jesus Christ for cleansing and renewal."

As Presbyterians, we believe that coming to the Lord's Table is not a right, but a privilege given to those who come in faith, repentance and love - the gifts of God for the people of God.

“SOUP &SANDWICH” - 4TH SATURDAYS

On the 4th Saturdays, a group of caring Christian folks from the Portage area are organizing and serving a “soup and sandwich” meal at PPC for anyone in the community that would like to come.

If you would be interested in helping out with this meal by serving, set-up, clean-up, etc, please contact the Church Office or just show up on the 4th Saturday.

The meal is served from 11:30-1:00 in the dining room.

This is another ministry in which PPC is involved with is helping to make a difference in the lives of those around us.

“WED NITE @ PPC” RETURNS IN JANUARY

“Wed Nite @ PPC” is the place to be!!!

If you have not had the chance to experience “Wed Nite @ PPC” you don’t know what you are missing.

A “fellowship meal” is served from 5:30-6:10 p.m. or so. This meal is for anyone who would like to come and share “food, fun and fellowship.”

So, if you are coming for one of the meetings / classes … or you just simply want to come and relax … or if you want to participate in the midweek worship experience – then come and eat! All are welcome!

Beginning around 6:10 p.m. there is a short “informal” worship service in the Sanctuary.

Then all of the different groups are dismissed to go to their respective meetings / classes, which includes some of the following –

* “educational classes” will be offered for elementary age young people (“The Life of Jesus” taught by Pastor Dave) and our “Pre-Confirmation” Class (grades 6 &7) taught by Lee Roundy.

* Handbell Choir rehearsal in the Sanctuary

* Chancel Choir rehearsal in church basement

Whoever says “church only happens on Sunday” obviously has not checked out the “Wed Nite @ PPC.” You’ll be glad you did! And so will we!

SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE

This summer our “normal” worship schedule will continue with worship at 9:30 a.m. through September 5.

However, we will have “one Sunday” that will deviate from the 9:30 a.m. schedule.

On Sunday, August 22 we will “be in the great outdoors” as we gather at Pauquette Park (the shelter near the pond) for a celebration of worship and a potluck picnic afterwards. Worship for this Sunday will begin at 10:30 a.m.

CAMPING AND OUTDOOR WORSHIP

Once again PPC will be “communing with God’s creation” for our annual “church campout”  Friday, August 20 – Sunday, August 22.

The Crossley family has graciously opened their “yard” to us for the camping. There’s plenty of space available for all who want to camp out. They live at N9130 Carroll Road (just north of Portage). Contact the Church Office for directions.

If you would rather not camp, but would like to come out for the fellowship and fun – come on out.

We will then conclude our “campout” as we gather for “worship” and “a potluck” lunch on Sunday, August 22 @ 10:30 a.m. at Pauquette Park (the shelter by the pond).

INTERESTED IN THE PRAYER CHAIN?

The Prayer Chain is an important ministry of the PPC congregation. Members of the Chain offer prayers for those whose names we share on Sunday mornings as well as prayers for those who contact the Chain directly. Prayers are offered by the members at their convenience during the week.

If you would like to be a part of this special ministry or would like more information, please contact a member of the Prayer Chain - Liz Hoversten (617-7338) or Jill Porzel (742-3988).

GENERAL ASSEMBLY – JULY 3-10, 2010

In July of 2010, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) will be meeting in Minneapolis. This is the biennial meeting of the largest governing body in our denomination.

Since this may be as close to Portage as the Assembly may come, we are inquiring as to interest in attending a portion of the meeting (for example, the election of the moderator or the opening worship service).

If this sounds like something in which you may be interested, call the Church Office and let us know as soon as possible. If we have interest, we will put together a meeting to begin our planning.

“WED NITE MEAL” INFORMATION

What a variety of food we have shared during our “Wed Nite Meals” – from bbq chicken to pizza to sub sandwiches to chicken and biscuits to sloppy joes to salads to scrumptious soups and wonderful desserts.

A big THANK YOU to all who have provided our meals. You have helped to make this fellowship time a good opportunity to gather and to eat.

Sign-up sheets are on the kiosk in Parry Hall for those who would like to participate in this special ministry by providing a meal for an evening.

A “free-will” offering is collected each evening to help reimburse costs for the meal.

Would you be willing to participate in this wonderful ministry and fellowship gathering time by providing a simple meal?

If so, or if you have questions, you can talk to Pastor Dave or indicate on the sign-up sheet on the kiosk in Parry Hall.
